The fantastic weather carries on with no sign of any change, the village was unusally quiet today and then we realised why, the ferry has been out of action all day whilst the cables across the lake are replaced.
A regular Buckle Yeat foursome have taken the camera with them today so I will sort ou their pictures and post some tomorrow.
Dave, one of the New Year gang called in passing this afternoon to say hello, he was out for a drive in the sunshine.

Sunshine in Sawrey yet again, this weather is fantastic.
I was giving the hanging baskets a quick watering this morning when Bev, a blue badge guide we know, stopped and introduced me to the American authoress Linda Lear who recently wrote the adult biography of Beatrix Potter which won various literary awards, there is a link to Linda Lears web page on right of this page.
A walk through the bluebell woods this evening and the bluebells seem to have taken a battering in thr thunder storm the other day.

More sunshine today although the air feels a lot fresher after the violent thunder storm of yesterday afternoon.
We had a threesome check in today all the way from Tanzania East Africa, a first for Buckle Yeat I think.
We lit the BBQ tonight and enjoyed our tea sat outside. We then strode up to the tarns and back down to the village.

Wow! what a day, we had a bright warm sunny morning and quite a few departures from the guesthouse, this afternoon we had a people in the garden and out of the blue it started to rain a little. Some people decided to sit it out with a brolly but one couple asked if they could come indoors, of course we said they could but the light rain would soon pass because the sky was still bright, how wrong can you be. Within a few moments the light summer type rain had turned into a cloudburst!
The drains were soon struggling to take the deluge and so I quickly lifted all the drain covers and just about stopped the water getting into the house, it did start to seep in under the clogging shop door on the front of the house but then the water level started to go down.
I nipped home to make sure all was well there and was only away 2 minutes and when I got back chaos!!! The water had started to run off Claife Heights and was coming down Stoney Lane like a river, the road drain at the post box is always slow (I have tried to get it sorted for years)the water then started to flow back into the area of the clogging shop door and get into the house again, Helen was busy trying to stem the tide from inside whilst I was doing the same from the outside, with a bag of garden compost and large plastic bag of dog food, courtesy of Anthony from the Tower Bank Arms, we managed to save the day.
There is a number of stories of flooding in the neighbourhood but hopefully everyone managed to keep damage to a minimum

A sunny start to the day and I spent half an hour watering the garden but then the day worsened and we had a shower of rain.
When it started to rain I went to the car to close the windows but I left the ignition on and when we came to start the car the battery was flat,it is all in hand though because neighbour Will has lent me a emergency start unit which when charged fully will I am sure get us mobile tomorrow.
