A couple of shots of St Michael's in Hawkshead, I noticed a gravestone of a Mr John Eccles, it said of Liverpool and passed away in his house Mount cottage in Sawrey, Thomas Eccles of Liverpool once owned Buckle Yeat, there must be a connection, I will have to do some detective work starting off with Mount Cottage Sawrey??

We had an unexpected booking yesterday, a couple had booked in to a B&B in Far Sawrey and unfortunately there was a plumbing problem and so they were unable to stay and the proprietors rang us to see if we could accommodate them, every cloud has a silver lining!!

No frost this morning but a covering of snow, we thought it would soon pass but it has snowed most of the day.
We have been busy with the paint rollers all day giving the dining room a lick of paint, half done and we will finish the rest tomorrow.
We had a young couple call for a room last night and it turned out the young ladies parents where old customers of ours they had been visiting Buckle Yeat before they had a family and then with their children,it makes me feel old!!

Its been a bit of a disaster on the B&B front, a massive cancellation has left us a bit short of customers and so on a fantastic sunny weekend we have been grounded, its all part of the job.

We did pick a couple up for one night, they had this boat which the gentleman had built himself and he named it, if you know Spanish you might know the meaning.

You could call it an eventful day, we had to dial 999 this morning for a guest, the ambulance took the young mum into Barrow hospital, her husband followed on and me and Helen have been entertaining their 2 year old all day, the hospital has just rung and she will be discharged later so hopefully all is well. All in days work!!!
It has been raining most of the day.

Sunday, February 14, 2010

It was a great start to the day as these pictures show, later on the clouds gathered and it began to drizzle.

We had a walk down to Cunsey and round by the church in Far Sawrey.
A full house tonight.

Tonight is the first night we are open since Christmas and we have just one room free tonight, full tomorrow.
We are going to try a early season offer to generate mid week bookings,so if you book a 3 night mid week stay ie Sun/Thurs you get the 3rd night half price, its a gift!!!

Thursday, February 11, 2010

It has been a sunny but cold day, we had a walk up over the tops and it was a bit icy underfoot but the views were stunning.
Just beyond the tarns the forestry workers had been busy and acres of trees had been felled for timber and it totally changed the landscape.

Well we are back in action after a short break, we are busy getting Buckle Yeat back up and running after its couple of weeks in mothballs, it took all day yesterday to get some hot water flowing, the mysteries of airlocks!! anyway it is all sorted now.
We had a run into Kendal this morning for some provisions and a trip to the hairdressers, we might got out for a drink tonight early doors then settle down for the footy.
