Near Sawrey

Sunday, October 30, 2011

It must be getting to the end of the season, the clocks went back last night, Peter Potters house closes tonight and we had the annual Sawrey bull run this morning, i tried to video it but failed miserably. So here are a couple more of Joyces sunrise shots, better than the last I think

The photographer Joyce under a clock of the same name on Carnforth Station before or after a brief encounter
( the film of the same name was shot on Carnforth Station)

A spectacular few days weather wise and as its half term all the better.
There has been some wonderful sunsets and sunrises this week and I have been trying to snap them but to no avail, they never seem to come out as good as they look.
These were taken by Joyce a regular customer of ours, and I think you will agree they are brilliant.

THE AFOREMENTIONED QUIZ NIGHT HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES, IT IS HOPED TO BE RESCHEDULED FOR JANUARY

Far Sawrey
There will be a Quiz Night at the Braithwaite Hall on Saturday 29th October 7.30 pm. Organized by Alan Hilton. Entrance £5 Adults and £2 under 16, to include Pie and Peas supper. Bring yer own booze or go thirsty. As much a social get together as a serious quiz, GRAND raffle and a chance to catch up on the gossip..
Its the main halt term holidays this week so lots of visitors in the village searching for Hill Top, I think we have the best of the weather today, dry and breezy.
We took a walk down the dub then through Castle Wood yesterday afternoon, the autumn colours seem to be on hold, it looked like the trees were changing colour weeks ago but they are still not at their best.
We spotted these large fungi (jokes welcome) in the hedgerow.

What a week, we had the police on Sunday searching for a missing lady who had stayed on a number of occasions at Buckle Yeat, fortunately she was found fit and well later that night in Ambleside, then on Monday high winds brought a tree down on a couples car as they drove up Coopers Lane again fortunately no injuries but looking at the damage in the pictures below they were very lucky.

Very cold this morning

Dreary weather at the moment, we did manage a quick walk down towards Esthwaite Water last night but the roads are like a quagmire due to the work the electricity people have been doing, it rained all night so it may have washed some of  the mud off the road, the contractors have just about finished.
An optimistic sign!!!!

A couple of autumnal pictures from the other day

Friday, October 07, 2011

All this work is apparently going to improve the quality of the electricity supply in the village

What a difference in a day although 10 minutes after getting back from a walk to the tarns the heavens opened

Last week it was all BBQ talk and heatwaves!! no wonder we are always talking about the weather

Wednesday, October 05, 2011

We are into a real windy wet spell of weather. A full house tonight but it is a bit quiteter than we are used to a sign of the times no doubt.
Our normal walks are a bit difficult at this time of the year, finding a gap in the weather to coincide with the arrival of guests is not always ideal.

After the Indian summer we are truly into Autumn all of sudden with cooler temperatures and a stiff breeze.
