Begonias have been outstanding this year they must be the number 1 bedding plant!

We had a  telephone call yesterday afternoon and the caller informed us it was raining and we had some washing out, very public spirited.
Oh and on the subject of famous names we had the Middletons staying last weekend

Yesterday afternoon we parked at the school in Hawkshead then walked up through the church yard onto the path to Tarn Hows but then carried onto Borwick Lodge where we took the path on the right and made our way up past Iron Keld then onto High Arnside, stunning panoramic views with an easy climb.

This memorial stone was erected by the National Trust in memory of a Capt Scott of the 60th Rifles who died aged 27 in 1942 I have tried google but have found no reference to the brave young man, I guess he must have been brave to warrant the stone.
The water in the foreground is Tarn Hows with Coniston Water beyond and then the Irish sea beyond that.

It was a "dusty" morning this morning with the mist rising off  Esthwaite Water and the sun breaking through, this afternoon the clouds rolled in and it is a bit gloomy for the Bank Holiday week end.

We were asked to find a site for a bench, a couple of regular visitors from Atlanta USA Bob and Bonnie Helget said they would like to donate a bench somewhere in the lakes so weary walkers could sit and enjoy the peaceful surroundings,
With the kind permission of the Bryerswood Estate the land on the footpath near Wilfin Bridge is to be the site of the bench, the area was overgrown with nettles and brambles so it has been cleared these are a couple of before and after shots and the bench will appear soon.
