Near Sawrey

Wow what a manic few days that was!!!
I will not bore you with the details but suffice to say all is well now.

After a brief but welcome indian summer I am afraid we are back to wild wet and windy conditions.

Denis and Margaret have set off to sunny Spain for a week or so this morning, well lets hope it is sunny.

We had a day or two off last week and made a quick visit to see Matthew, he is well and settled in to his life in Leicester, on the way back we made a detour to visit Chatsworth House, the weather was fantastic and we spent a couple of hours wandering round the famous gardens and took lots and lots of pictures.

Guess the weight I think it was 60lbs and Anthony from the TBA was nearest and won £20

The judges ponder their decisions.

The eventual winner on the scales, grown by Chris from Far Sawrey and tipping the scales at 70lb

The spoils
We have a big party in this weekend celebrating a 40th wedding anniversary, video later watch this space.
The sun is shining and the weather forecast is good, about time.

Today is Sawrey Marrow Day and judging starts at 3pm. It all takes place at the Braithwaite Hall in Far Sawrey and all are welcome. I will try and get up there and get some pictures later

Sunny day and off to Kendal, shopping and a haircut then back home.

Regular guests Derek and Vicky left this morning, they will be back in less than 3 weeks for the 5th and final visit of the season and have already booked next years visits, that's dedication for you.

A group 9 German guests arrived this afternoon and they turn out to be Lilliput Lane collectors and because Buckle Yeat was made as a Lilliput Lane model a few years ago they wanted to stay in a cottage they have in their display cabinet.

It was heritage day today which apparently meant entrance to Hill Top was free, we expected mayhem but it was bizarrely quiet, which was a nice surprise because it enabled me to watch a large part of the the footy,at last Liverpool got the better of big rivals Man Utd.

It took a while for the sun to break through but when it did we had a walk down to the shores of Esthwaite Water, the path was sodden but the views were stunning.

We managed to get the grass cut today, it was wet under foot and not ideal but it was needing cutting badly.

We then set off a walk up as far as Wise Een, we had to turn back because Helen had 4fruit cakes in the oven, they turned out perfect as usual.

It was such a sunny evening we even set off on a second walk of the day and went down towards the Dub and through to Far Sawrey.

The weather is on the up, a good sunny day today and another forecast for tomorrow.
9 years since my mum died today so we went to Ulverston with flowers for her grave and also laid flowers on the graves of my grans and Helen's aunt Janet.
On the way back we pulled into the car park at Lakeside and took these few photos of the railway station and steamer pier.

After all the rain the rivers are flowing fast!!

Monday, September 08, 2008

At last a dry day!

A full house at Buckle Yeat, we have calls from all sorts of people and we had a call from the Australian High Commission in London this afternoon with a booking enquiry, how they pick up our number I'm not sure.

For the first time in a while we got a walk after work.

We took these pictures up at Moss Eccles tonight of the lily pads, getting the close up meant getting my feet very very wet.

When we were out shopping in Kendal the other week we bumped into John & Margaret and arranged to meet up with them and Dave and Betty who all are part of the New Year gang.

So we met up at the Tower Bank last night and had a great evening with good food, good wine and good company.

The rain keeps on fallling and looking at the news it is the same all over the country.
We are full of guests and even turning them away this weekend, do they know something we don't.
I am just writing this on the new lap top for guest use at Buckle Yeat whilst waiting for the last check in people, they have been in touch and so we know they are on the way.
Sorry but no pictures again due to..... well you know what the problem is and hopefully we will be able to get out and about when the sun shines again.

The weather shows no sign of improving, unbelievably heavy showers and they arrive with alarming frequency.
We have a couple of scientific doctors in attending a seminar at Ferry House, they are fasting in accordance with their faith and the month of Ramadan and and required early breakfast and when I asked what time they said any time before 4:30 am. we left them some breakfast out so they could help themselves.

One of the aforementioned showers.

The awning provided by the National Trust for it's customers collapesed during the night, good riddance it was an eyesore from some of the bedrooms at Buckle Yeat, good job the general public were not under it when the weight of rain forced it down or there could have been some serious claims being pursued.

The first day of September and although it is raining at the moment we have had a mostly sunny day. I have had to take the car back into the garage tonight as it still leaks in, this time they have lent me a brand new Freelander which has only done 70 miles, ie. brand spanking new.

We have agreed to be the sponsors for the forthcoming Sawrey Marrrow Show so today we had a call asking what we preferred as trophies for the winners, we have left it in the hands of the organisers, the event is on Saturday 20th September

A quick walk down to Esthwaite Water before tea.
