Buckle Yeat is situated in the village of Near Sawrey. The name Buckle Yeat is over 300 years old and it means fasten the gate.In years gone by the gate referred to would be the gate to the village. Near Sawrey was once home to the children's writer Beatrix Potter about whom the movie Miss Potter is all about. Hill Top Farm where she wrote many of her stories is a museum and is open to the public.

All in all we have had pretty hectic week with one thing and another, a mixed bag on the weather front, it feels autumnal today not August Bank Holiday weather.
We had a lot of departures this morning so Helen has been busy all day with the laundry and I have made a garden bench using some old cast iron bench ends that belonged to Helen's great grandfather, nothing to elaborate, Im no joiner, I just bought some ready cut wood and drilled a few holes, painted the cast iron and put it all together but it looks quite good.
No walk tonight it is pouring down again.

A sunny Saturday, Matthew is home for the weekend so with his help I got the grass cut at Buckle Yeat and at home and at Denis and Margaret's.
We have a good crowd in as usual at Buckle Yeat, including a threesome from Kentucky USA,and a family attending a christening in Far Sawrey.
There was a local wedding in far Sawrey today and they were blessed with the weather.
We had a walk up to Moss Eccles before tea.

A busy week and not great weather so any good pictures are not easy to come by.
We had the lady who made our Mr McGregor stay at Buckle Yeat last night, she is called Lynn and has become a friend of ours, its really funny how friendships begin.
We have had a few messages recently from Atlanta USA, again from guests who have become friends, what a great job we have!
Thursday is now the Westmorland Gazette day after years and years being a Friday publication.

We had a surprise visit from Matthew this weekend which was great, so yesterday we all went on a long walk over the tops and back along the lake shore before climbing up ferry hill and ending up Tower Bank Arms for a couple of cool pints of beer before
heading home for Helen's fantastic lasagna.
Today me and Matthew did a bit of tidying up in the garden and Helen had mounds of washing to do at Buckle Yeat.

Today the date is 07/08/09 and at precisely 12.34.56 pm we had the spooky time line 123456789 interesting eh!!
A busy day at Buckle Yeat with yet another almost full turnout of guests, but all the incoming arrived by 6pm.
The farmers have all been busy cutting grass these last 2 days so with a bit of luck the weather will hold till they get it all gathered in.
These are a couple more of the interior shots we received by email the other day, great pictures.

At last the sun has arrived and so no excuses for lots of pictures, tonight we even lit the bbq. Although we had a mini drama, we were sat out with a refreshing drink, relaxing and reading the papers this evening with the bbq set and ready to light when all of a sudden there was deafening explosion, the disposable lighter I had brought out to light the bbq had exploded just inches from us, it had been in the sun for a few minutes but that must be the case all over the world and the sun was hardly extreme.
After our supper we had a walk up to Moss Eccles and both commented on the amount of berries on the Mountain Ash or Rowan trees.
