Brrr still cold but at least its dry.
Friday and only one room to arrive, they checked in mid afternoon so we could have a walk up to Moss Eccles and then down to Far Sawrey passing Fold Farm and having a bit of a crack with Graham the farmer.
The pumpkins at Sawrey Stores.
The other day I bought a scary mask in preparation for trick or treat, boy did we have some fun with it, we had 2 visits from trick or treaters who I scared the living daylights out of before giving up the sweets and then we had a visit from the poppy seller, she is still in shock, but fancy knocking on doors in the dark on Halloween!!!!!
Buckle Yeat is situated in the village of Near Sawrey. The name Buckle Yeat is over 300 years old and it means fasten the gate.In years gone by the gate referred to would be the gate to the village. Near Sawrey was once home to the children's writer Beatrix Potter about whom the movie Miss Potter is all about. Hill Top Farm where she wrote many of her stories is a museum and is open to the public.

Winter has arrived early with a sharp frost in the morning, the sun then broke through and made a good but cold afternoon.
I helped Denis strip out the garden walls and take down all the hanging baskets and generally tidy up the garden for the winter, we just need to plant some winter flowering plants in the next few days.

It has been a fantastic sunny autumn day in Sawrey and the temperatures are dropping fast.
We have had reports of minor roads blocked by floodwater but I think most roads are now passable with care.
I took this shot of a rainbow over Esthwaite Water on my walk to work this morning.
We had a walk up to Moss Eccles and then back down into Far Sawrey and called in at Sawrey Stores late this afternoon.

After the torrential rain of yesterday we have had a sunny but cool day.
We have a full house with four of the New Year gang in for the weekend, Pete & Lynn, Dave & Vanessa.
We had a good walk up to Moss Eccles this afternoon, lots of walkers out today.
We have had a couple of examples of good feedback recently, a really nice email from Guy & Jean who have just returned to Australia, they had a week with us in September, and Anne & Robin from Scotland who often stay have signed our new guest book, go on if you have stayed with us in the past add your name to the guest book by clicking on the link on the right or visiting our homepage and following the links.

Not a bad start to the day, we have a group of 12 in and so far they have decent dry days and no wash outs.
This afternoon we went to Grange-over-Sands to pick up Denis & Margaret from the railway station on their return from Spain.
It is years since I had walked along the promenade at Grange, as kids we used to come up to Grange on the train to the (freezing cold) outdoor salt water swimming pool. as a youngster that walk back along the prom to the pool we had passed on the train seemed a massive distance, I thought it would seem much shorter now, but it still seemed a long way.
The sands in Grange-over-Sands have been replaced by spartina grass which the council is trying to eradicate, the sheep seem to be happy though.
Grange-over Grass seems wrong.
The rain arrives on the coast from nowhere.

We had a room to let today due to a cancellation but had a couple of Aussies call late afternoon, we always struggle with our antipodean cousins, we seem expensive due to the poor exchange rate.
In the post this morning was nice card from guests Ivor and Gill who stayed for their usual week early in the month, they seemed to get the idea I was missing Robbie the robin so sent me this replacement, pictured here on Mr McGregors shoulder.

After the monsoon conditions of the last two days we had a spring like Saturday with sunshine and blue skies.
Lynn from Trawden in Lancashire, the creator of Mr McGregor, turned up today with a replacement Mr Mc, she is really proud of the amount of cash her creation has raised for the Tarn Hill playground and so she should be. The new guy is a big one!!!
The aforementioned Tarn hill playground living up to it's name.
This morning Helen had a bit of a panic, she was putting on her boots to do a bit of gardening and felt something in her shoe, on further inspection it turned out to be a frog!! Helen has a phobia about frogs, snakes lizards etc,I was in Hawkshead and so she had to call on Derek, a guest, to remove the frog. Nightmares for Helen tonight then.
