A couple of arty close up shots

Wednesday, September 21, 2011

At last a dry day and although the grass was very wet I managed to get all the grass cut and even get a walk in.
Work in progress!! I think they have gone overboard with the signage.

Sawrey Marrow Show 2011

Sawrey Marrow show was held on a Sunday for the first time and they had a great turnout and hopefully raised lots of money for the upkeep of the Sawrey Institute.
These are just a few pictures from the event.
After the show most  people pitched up at the TBA for a few drinks and some supper.

A couple of dodgy geezers

I won a bottle of wine in the raffle and these stunning peppers  won 3rd prize

Chris won the heaviest marrow class and here he is being presented with his prize by Anthony of the TBA who sponsored the event

Its  usually the way a misty start turns into nice sunny day, and that was yesterday, today the opposite, it is dreary, damp, dark and cold!! other than that its fine.
I have been off to Kendal this afternoon and back on the ferry, all the signs say the ferry is closed and have done for a couple of days but it is operating normally, its obvious it is not a private enterprise but a council run operation, they must losing revenue just because the signs are wrong

As suspected the storm we had forecast never quite lived up to its billing although we had power outage (cut)  for a couple of hours yesterday.
The Isle of Man guests were sadly unable to travel, all sailings were cancelled, however another couple due to leave felt uneasy driving so they filled the vacant room for a couple of nights.
Its a bit brighter today although breezy with the odd heavy shower

Sunday, September 11, 2011

Pouring down again this morning with a forecast of high winds, the remnants of a hurricane apparently, great just as we have guests due to arrive from the Isle of Man tomorrow, I will be very surprised if the boat is not cancelled.
We had a couple of on-line reviews within 24 hours of each other, one was saying they enjoyed their stay but not room 2 because of uneven floors ( 300 year old cottage!!!) and the other couple recommending room 2, it just goes to show you cannot please all the people all of the time.

Yesterday afternoon all of a sudden the clouds cleared and the sun shone, it was the Westmorland County Show so at least they had a good day, the torchlight procession takes place in Kendal tonight but it looks like that will be a wet one.

These are a couple of pictures from our walk down to Cunsey yesterday
The beck is in full spate

This is another post box the painter man has spruced up, as you can see it is a Victorian model.

Sue and Dan from the States checked out this morning and asked me to give a shout out to their friend Tom back home

Matthew is participating in an event in London to raise money for Water Aid.

The aim is to carry 20 Litres of water (without spilling), 5 miles across London on foot, the more money raised, the less water they have to carry.
There will be mystery puzzles to solve on the way and a photo challenge to attempt.
Any donations would be greatly appreciated, click the link below to donate

Still no computer so using the one we have available for our guests to use.
On the weather front Saturday was awful with rain all day and yesterday was a brilliant sunny warm day, we headed off on the old favourite walk last night before supper aka Moss Eclles. Today sunshine and heavy showers.
These roses are a couple of specimens we have growing at home.
