Buckle Yeat is situated in the village of Near Sawrey. The name Buckle Yeat is over 300 years old and it means fasten the gate.In years gone by the gate referred to would be the gate to the village. Near Sawrey was once home to the children's writer Beatrix Potter about whom the movie Miss Potter is all about. Just off to bed last night at about 11pm and the kitchen ceiling shook that much I went upstairs up to Matthews old room to see if he had sneaked back home, I even went outside to check if a tractor had crashed into the side of the house.

No snow overnight but freezing cold, the temperature according to the thermometer on my car has not got over -6 degree C all day.
We had a walk up to Moss Eccles this afternoon which was quite a task give the conditions underfoot, we both have these crampon style fittings that you strap on your shoes or boots and they are brilliant.
Moss Eccles with a quite thick covering of ice, there were some footprints around the edge but you will not catch me venturing out onto the ice!!

Misty morning, misty mid-day and misty evening!
The trees have taken on a full covering of frost and although its freezing and I hate it, I have to admit it is picturesque.
Dentist today with toothache for me and back in the morning for treatment, great!! I so love going to the dentist, not!

Eventually the heavy snow which has covered most of the country for the last week or two has arrived in Sawrey.
The Hawkshead Christmas Fair gets underway this afternoon and hopefully people will be able to get there.
The rally scheduled for Grizedale Forest on Saturday has been cancelled.
These pictures were taken at lunchtime today and it is still snowing early evening.
