Still no better on the weather front, it feels more like October than late June.
A big exodus from Buckle Yeat this morning and we are taking a couple of days out so no blogging for while.




A couple who were in over the weekend had a bit of and adventure yesterday over Whinlatter Pass, a police car of all things had driven into a ditch and two embarrassed policemen were struggling to get it out, the road was blocked with the incident so a group of motorists helped manhandle the police car back onto the road.

Wet and windy again today, not great weather for June.
Tony and Lorna left for home today, they have not been too lucky with the weather this time.
We had an appointment in Kendal this afternoon so it was a bit of a rush this morning, but we made it with a few minutes to spare.

We are just waiting on a foursome to arrive, I think they are from Norway, I can't recall any previous visitors staying with us from Norway.

Still no road markings in the village, it looks better but people park all over the place.

A dry day with the rain arriving just as we were on our way back from a walk, we met Tal and her dogs at Pigling Bland corner, we stood under the trees and had a chat until the rain passed.

After the torrential rain and high winds of the weekend we awoke to a sunny day.
Last night we had a good night out and a nice meal at The Tower Bank Arms with Tony and Lorna and their guide dog Kerry who are staying with us for a few days.


This is Denis making a dash across the yard yesterday during the deluge, if he waited for a break in the weather he would have never got home.






After work we had a walk down to Esthwaite Water, there has been many sightings of a Osprey on the lake and we have had a lot of false alarms as we have walked down that way but tonight we definitely spotted an Osprey soaring above the lake, it was being chased off by a gull

Yesterday was a sunny day and although we had late arrivals they kept us informed by mobile phone, this gave us the chance to have a good long walk, there was lots good photo opportunities but my camera ran out of power as we tried to take the first shot,never mind.

Derek and Vicky checked out this morning after their weeks holiday, poor Derek was in a bit of flap before breakfast, he had lost his car keys and was searching everywhere, Vicky unpacked their suitcases, Derek retraced his movements,he had posted some postcards and the fear was he had posted the keys with them. But all this searching was to no avail as the keys were in his back pocket all along!!

A horrible day today with constant rain , there was a wedding at Far Sawrey this afteroon and it was the Rose Queen festivities at Esthwaite Vale Primary school in Hawkshead, both events could have done with some sunshine.

Well it does rain in Sawrey and boy did it rain last night!
Off to Kendal today and then back home for a walk up to Moss Eccles before settling down to watch the football, a good game with the Germans knocking out Ronaldo and his Portuguese team.

We had a family in for teas who had been sent by an American guest Kathy and her daughter Sarah who stayed with us a couple of years ago, Kathy had told her friends to call in and say hello.

We got this email and picture from Tangwyn and his mates who did the bike ride last weekend.

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to write a quick (if belated) thank you to all of you who sponsored us for the ride last weekend. At latest count the event had raised over £10,000 for Cancer Research UK; the donations you made were without doubt a big part of that, and helped make a special day even more special.
Over 270 riders took part in the ride and even more people rocked up for the after-party, which provided much-needed alcohol to numb the pain in arms, legs and especially bums! The weather was superb and the trails in great nick, so there were going to be no excuses for not completing the course...As you will see from the attachment (ignore how fresh we look in the photos - they were all taken in the first 20 minutes!) we did complete it, though perhaps not as quickly as we would have liked! However, we came 8th out of the 14 teams riding together, and in any case we will be back to make amends next year. As I've said, it was a special day, and one that all of us know Sam would have loved to been around for.

Another wonderful sunny day in Sawrey, mind chaos reigned as the lack of road markings led to cars parking all over the village.
We had a walk up to the tarns before tea and then settled down to watch the football.

A damp start but the day improved again, a little bit cooler though.

There was a bit of excitement in the village this afternoon, a lady fell and broke her arm, they made it to the ticket office and an ambulance was summoned and arrived in the village with lights flashing and sirens wailing, I hope it was not diverted from a life or death incident. At about the same time a police car sped towards Far Sawrey destination unknown.



We had a walk down to Esthwaite Water after tea.

A day at the computer filling in the VAT returns and then a visit from the accountant this afternoon, great fun!





We had a walk to Far Sawrey and saw a big red deer as we walked by Wilfin Beck, we the headed off past the church along the footpath back towards Esthwaite Water and through the woods to Dub How.

A manic day in Sawrey as the local authority went through the village redressing the road surface, it is all done now and it makes the road look wider, no road markings yet so I guess parking will be interesting for a while.




We had a walk round the block tonight but boy what a block!!! up to Moss Eccles and back down to the village.

It has been another sunny Sawrey day, we had a very nice e-mail from a young couple Paul and Sarah from Rhu in Argyle & Bute. They have just had a few days with us getting a Lake District tan and sent these photos




The talk of the tea garden is the Peony in the garden, it has excelled itself this year and everyone is commenting on it, apparently it is called Bowl of Beauty, pictures below

Yesterdays BBQ on Tarn Hill was a great success with wall to wall sunshine and a great turnout, we cashed in Mr McGregors donations this year so far and it added up to just over £400 which makes a running total to date of over £2000.
Helen was press ganged into the treasure hunt team with the kids from the farm and ended up on a trek to Moss Eccles and back, the kids called their team the fantastic funkers, quite hard to say after a couple of drinks, anyway they ended up the winners and got a large tin of sweets as a prize

Yesterday was D day, the TV man came out to sort out the televisions,we now have a better picture and although it is still not sorted, by next week we should have a great picture and 4 main channels plus Sky News in all the bedrooms and the lounge.

We had a drop of rain overnight and it was slow to improve, but the sun finally broke through.

We had a busy day everything seemed to go wrong, the credit card machine decided to fail as customers tried to pay their bills. We tried in vain to get it sorted but after ages on the phone they will have to come out on Monday.
It's good to see a couple of Buckle Yeat regulars have donated to the Sam Houghton Challenge Fund, the boys should have completed their ride by now and will be sore and recovering.

Off to Kendal today for the dreaded shopping, we called in at my brothers shop to pick up some toys for the tombola/raffle which will be part of the BBQ and fun day on Tarn Hill playground this Sunday from 2pm.

We had quick word with Matthew today and he has asked me to put this link on.

Matthew and Sarah arrived back safely from Mexico yesterday and they will be back to work today.
