Buckle Yeat is situated in the village of Near Sawrey. The name Buckle Yeat is over 300 years old and it means fasten the gate.In years gone by the gate referred to would be the gate to the village. Near Sawrey was once home to the children's writer Beatrix Potter about whom the movie Miss Potter is all about. Hill Top Farm where she wrote many of her stories is a museum and is open to the public.

Another fantastic sunny day, Matthew headed back down to Leicester this afternoon and rang about 5pm to say he arrived safe and well, meanwhile we had a good long walk, down the Dub through by Cunsey and down to the lake shore before heading back along by Rawlinson Nab.
The sun never shines on this frosty lane.

Another cold frosty morning and I took these first two pictures early this morning on the way to work.
We had guests arriving today and the footy was on so I volunteered to wait for them and Helen went for a walk with her mum Margaret. The footy was brilliant and Helen had a good walk so we were all happy.
These two pictures are of Moss Eccles.

Boxing day and a dreary start to the morning, but the forecast was good and we really had to get out for a good long walk.
Matthews mate Tangwyn came over early and the two of them headed over to Coniston and climbed Dow Crag then traversed the ridge to the Old Man of Coniston and then back down into the village, we had another plan and drove to Grasmere and headed up Helm Crag aka "The Lion and the Lamb".We then came down into the valley before climbing up to Easdale Tarn. The sun came out and there was lots of walkers out and about.
Sour Milk Ghyll taken from half way up Helm Crag.

At last a dry day with a bit of sunshine, Matthew arrived home last night for the Christmas holiday so we set off this morning and parked at Brathy bridge, we then headed up to the top of Loughrigg fell and the down the other side before making our way back along Loughrigg Terrace overlooking Grasmere and Rydal Water.
We have had a visit from the carol singers tonight and they were in exceptionally good voice.

A quiet week in the village, we are closed for decorating and refurbishing, new carpets arrive tomorrow. The plumber will be here at 8am as well to change a radiator in one of the bedrooms. We will then be all set for the New Year crew. We have been in Kendal this afternoon getting a few essentials. I forgot to take the camera so no pics today.

A misty start but at last no rain no snow and no frost.
We had a walk this afternoon up to Moss Eccles, the tarn still has a covering of thin ice showing how cold it has been.
On the way down we met Paul from the farm who was telling us how his 3 children had been excited about the visit of father Christmas yesterday to the village hall party, his middle girl had noticed Santa arrived and left in my car and came to the conclusion he was staying at Buckle Yeat, of course he was that's the magic of Christmas.
We found a tree heaving in holly berries, the birds have not found it yet.
