After another bitterly cold night we awoke to a heavy frost, after the weekend guests checked out this morning Helen and I started to remove the wallpaper from one of the bedrooms due for refurbishment and tomorrow we will start to re-paper the room.
On a cold November day I could not resist putting on this picture from our recent holiday on Spains southern coast.
This afternoon we had a walk up to the tarns and boy it was cold.
Buckle Yeat is situated in the village of Near Sawrey. The name Buckle Yeat is over 300 years old and it means fasten the gate.In years gone by the gate referred to would be the gate to the village. Near Sawrey was once home to the children's writer Beatrix Potter about whom the movie Miss Potter is all about. Hill Top Farm where she wrote many of her stories is a museum and is open to the public.

Brrr! freezing fog all day.
A busy weekend in the area, we have the Christmas weekend in Hawkshead, the Malcolm Wilson rally in Grisdale Forest and in Ulverston the Dickensian weekend is in full swing.
We are up and running for weekends at Buckle Yeat and had a full house last night with just one room available tonight, if anyone fancies a break in the lakes next weekend we still have a couple rooms available and the christmas decorations will be up to get you into the festive spirit.

A sunny Sunday morning, the blog will be off for a few days from today, I just had to put these 9 or 10 photos on, they have all featured on previous days over the last year or so and a gentleman from Luton called Brian, who stayed at Buckle Yeat some years ago has been tweaking them using some photo software, they arrived on a cd in the post yesterday, thanks Brian.

We have had a busy couple of days decorating, Helen and I set to on the kitchen at Denis and Margaret's, it was like TV program makeover, wallpaper off, painted ceiling, swish new modern lights and then this morning a couple of coats of some really good emulsion, "Lime White" the new floor covering is on order and bingo a new room.
Whilst in the thick of of it yesterday we had a visit from Philip and Dorothy formerly of the Tower Bank Arms, who are both well, unfortunately they missed Denis and Margaret who were out buying the paint for the kitchen.

After the torrential rain yesterday today it has been sunshine all the way.
We parked at Tilberthwaite and walked over the tops to Slaters bridge and then by-passed Little Langdale and on to Elterwater, we had a sandwich and a pint sat out in the sun at the Britannia Inn.
Then we set off along the road towards Colwith, then on the footpath past Colwith Force and eventually made our way back to the car via the quarry.

A couple off wild and windy days and the leaves are falling fast.
We have a couple of emails from some regular guests, one from Peter & Linda with a footy message and one from Brian & Joyce being the first to use the experimental booking system.
A bit of a drama today with water pouring out of the the top of the water cylinder at Denis and Margarets, it could have been worse, it was a proplem with the immersion heater which was soon sorted.

All in all a good week on the weather front with lots of sunshine.
No chance to get out for a walk today as we have guests arriving all day for the weekend. So far 4 rooms are here and the rest are on the way.
Ted & Margaret from the North East, two of the New Year gang are here.
During the week we had an 80 year old Japanese lady staying for 5 days, we were thinking she was very brave travelling by coach and taxi to the lakes all on her own speaking just a little bit of English. Giving her a lift into Hawkshead the other day she told me she was going to Paris next week!!!!
On the day of her departure her niece had arranged for a taxi to pick her up at 8am. by 10 mins past no taxi! she was beginning to panic so I rang the taxi firm and good job I did, the taxi firm had Saturday down in their books. We gave her a lift to the ferry and arranged for a taxi to meet her on the other side and take her to the bus station.
A new addition to the blog is the option to book accommodation online, just click the appropiate button on the right of this page.

What a fantastic autumn day, we needed a wiper blade for the car so we drove to Coniston, parked in the village and walked to Torver via a footpath that in some parts followed the disused railway line, we picked up the wiper blade from Hadwins garage and then walked back to the village along the shores of Coniston Water, the views where stunning so lots of pictures, it is records week so there was a few speed boats buzzing up and down, lots of people watching with some serious looking cameras.
More info on the right.
